Imagine not having to run to the grocery store to get your household items.
No dragging yourself out of bed to do a week-end chore, putting on something that does not look like pajamas (or they could because I have seen some peeps out and about in their PJs…no judgement here!), getting the car out, and then dealing with parking as other families, who are doing exactly the same thing as you, are racing to get the most convenient spots.
I really would not rather do that.
I really would rather find a delivery service that ships the items to me at minuscule price, or better yet offer it for free.
Now if I find one that only sells the non-toxic, natural yet very effective, preferably organic variety of household cleaners and body care from different manufacturers, then I am completely sold!
But is there such a thing?
I subscribe to the Honest Company, and while I am satisfied with their array, I do prefer trying out different brands, who are perhaps much better in their formulations and offer lower pricing.
I have heard of Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, Seventh Generation, Acure, Method, and many others. But in order to try them out I would have to search in the different stores that distribute their products. Couldn’t there just be a one-stop shop?
Turns out there is and the company is actually based in the bay area!
I stumbled upon this company while reading another’s blogger’s review of Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Spring line. The scent was Peony, which happens to be my favorite flower. I was intrigued by the raving review and decided to click her link. This took me to a site called ‘Grove Collective’. And from there I realized it was exactly the online household shop I was looking for!
Now before I got too excited, I decided to check out the prices. Will they charge a premium or are they comparable to the what is offered at my neighborhood mart. Turns out it’s the latter and sometimes it is even cheaper! And as far as the shipping fee it is a standard $2.99 no matter how many items you buy! In fact, they carbon offset 100% of the shipments. If you are curious what this means, carbon offset is an extra selection made to a shipper that instructs them to offset the emissions of the shipment’s transport. Now I am impressed!
Because I am a discerning shopper and better educated on the effects of harsh toxic ingredients that commonly found in household and beauty care products, I was particularly pleased that Grove Collaborative sells products from companies who will not use the following harmful chemicals: ammonia, chlorine, formaldehyde, glycol ethers, phthalates, ticlosan, and parabens.
With that in mind I decided to browse and add in my shopping cart.
I gave Method, Acure Skincare, Dr. Bronner’s, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, Seventh Generation, and even Grove Collaborative‘s own line a try.
I bought laundry detergent, dish soap, steel appliance cleaner, multi-purpose disinfectants, granite cleaners, wood floor squirts, hand soap, dishwasher tablets, multi-surface cleaner, castile soap, wood cleaner, lip balms, and scented candles.
I did a quick calculation. For the price I paid I probably saved 15% off the retail prices. And for the convenience and saving me time that is absolutely priceless!
Within a few days of my order I received my shipment. Everything was intact, no spills, and no broken bottles. I did notice the Grove Collaborative scented soy candle they sent me was the ‘Blood Orange’ scent, whereas I ordered the ‘Vanilla Bean + Sandlewood’. I decided to give their customer service a try.
I wrote an email to their support line and described the mishap in the candles. They replied to my inquiry within a day. They apologized for the inconvenience, informed me that the correct candle scent was on its way, and offered that I keep the wrong ‘Blood Orange’. Wow! That is superb!
Now I am busy trying out the products. If I like them I can always request some of them to be auto-ship to me on a schedule. If I want to try more products, then I have the option to do that too. I control the shipment date. And if I forget I will get a reminder. Very cool!
So far I am loving the Grove Collaborative service. I hope they will always offer below retail-prices and their shipping fee remains the same. And I also hope their company will grow, continue their great customer service, and offer more safe and effective household and body care products. I really want them to succeed because they appear to be a great company with a positive mission to care about health and environmental impact.
