I know Jessica Herrin.
When I say this, I do not mean in the sense that I heard about her. Or read about her. Or watched a show featuring her.
I mean I know her.
I met her. Shook hands with her. And even had a small conversation with her (granted it was only 5 minutes, but nevertheless it happened). And, believe it or not, we were dancing in a big group too!
Now if you were one of the 3,000 Stella and Dot Stylists that started with the company in its first four years of business, then you would perfectly how I was able to have this interaction with Mrs. Herrin. Yes that is correct. For close to three years I was a Stella and Dot Stylist and in those times I had a wonderful opportunity to network with the higher ups of the company, of whom Jessica is at the helm of its leadership.
When I read her first publication, ‘Find Your Extraordinary’, I could not help but reminisce my days having a part-time home-based business with Stella and Dot. If I were to sum the entire experience into a word I would say it was ’empowering’. Because during those days Jessica made herself available in hundreds of ‘live’ speaking engagements, online training sessions, and weekly motivational videos. All of us stylists could avail this. We heard accepting your unique self, encouraging one another, putting the word ‘CAN’ into our vocabulary, putting in the effort can be done in a smart way and not the hard way, and most importantly success is one’s definition of what happiness is and no one else’s.
I have to admit that I did not have to get into the business of being a Stella & Dot stylist. I had full-time work and already had too much on my plate in terms of family, home, and personal duties. But I could not help it. My entrepreneurial adventure became my ‘down’ time. I was having an amazing camaraderie with a group of women who empowered each other whenever we met on a monthly basis. I was able to interact with family and friends through the trunk show parties. I wore tons and tons of gorgeous jewelry and accessories. And I had access to the inspirational voice of Jessica Herrin. Everything about it was a win!
Now I am not telling you to be a Stella & Dot Stylist (unless it’s something you really want to do). But I can tell you that if you read her book you will feel inspired, empowered, and even have a sigh of relief. Why? Because you will realize from her beautiful story, as well as the many other women whose stories she shares, that leading an extraordinary life are all within your power and control. There is no barrier to prevent you from achieving your personal happiness.
