I cannot believe 2017 is coming to an end in just a matter of weeks. Looking back I was Hong Kong exactly a year ago, exploring the festive areas of the city with my teen. And now Christmas is upon us once again! How time certainly flies fast!
In the past days you may have been shopping galore, taking advantage of Black Friday deals and all the holiday discounts. But I do wonder if you had a chance to get yourself something that can get the start of the new year just right.
Instead of giving you a gift guide for all those special people in your list, I thought of what you may want to have as a treat to yourself. And in doing so, may I just put it out there that while I love that the stores are full-on display, I still prefer online shopping. No hassle with the traffic. No scavenging for parking. And no long lines at the cash register!
And extra perk for me preferring the online route is being able to use a free service called EBATES.com. What is this exactly?
It’s basically a ‘rebate’ search engine of hundreds of popular vendors. Instead of going to a online store directly, I simply go to this EBATES.com link and select my favorite shopping site. If I make a purchase, the net tally returns a ‘rebate’. At the end of a quarter that rebate is deposited into my Paypal account (if you don’t have Paypal, EBATES.com mails you a check!).
And voila! I get money back that I would not have otherwise received had I gone straight to a store site. Since being a member six years ago I have accumulated over $1,200 in ‘rebates’. I know….pretty amazing, huh?
Now for my gift guide on cool items to start your 2018 right, see below:

(2) Plant Therapy 7 & 7 Aromafuse Gift Set – $99
If you want to get started in essential oil therapy, I highly recommend Plant Therapy!
Foremost it is not a multi-level marketing company. Why is this important? Because I feel some of the reliable, but on a MLM business model, are companies that charge exorbitantly. Unfortunately, their high prices goes into commissions of the sales persons. There is certainly nothing wrong with that. However, I prefer to refer my readers to equally reliable companies that charge reasonable for their products. And in my research, this is how I discovered Plant Therapy.
The official description of this set is:
- Set includes 100% pure essential oils and synergies of Lavender, Eucalyptus Globulus, Cinnamon Cassia, Tea Tree, Lemon, Sweet Orange, Peppermint Supreme, Germ Fighter, Energy, Tranquil, Sensual, Invigor-Aid, Relax and Immune-Aid.
- 10 ml

(4) BEAUTY (RED)EFINED tarteist™ PRO Amazonian Clay Eye Palette – $53
Among my beauty arsenals, the brand TARTE stands out. That’s because they are a cruelty-free vegan brand that does not use Parabens, Mineral Oil, Phthalates, Triclosan, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, and Gluten in their products.
This particular eyeshadow palette has 20 ultra-pigmented shades powered by naturally-derived ingredients. I love that there is a wonderful combination of neutral and dramatic shades matte shades. And because they are made using Amazonian clay it means better, longer, and truer wear.
My TARTE palette have lasted me a long time, at least a couple of years. What is amazing is that the colors are so versatile with any clothing ensemble that I can easily use it any season. And because it is compact it is definitely easy to bring during my travels.
This product is also:
- dermatologist tested
- ophthalmologist tested
- safe for contact lens wearers
(5) The Happy Planner – $24.99 to $29.99
If you follow my blog posts you know I am all over The Happy Planner system by Me and My Big Ideas (MAMBI) company!
I have written a couple of blog posts about it and have shared different ways I have used mine in my Instagram feed. Yes, I love it and will continue to endorse it because it really is a fun and creative way to be organized, gather one’s thoughts, and reflect about the daily happenings.
If you are wondering where to get this planner, they are sold in Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Staples, and many other stationery stores.
You are also in luck if you really want this because Michaels is having a huge sale! The regular size Happy Planners (8.5″ x 9.75″) are now on sale for $9.99 and the large Happy Planners (11.5 x 10.25) are at $11.99. I never thought they would be that steal of a price, but since they are it’s great to share the savings news!
So for a mere 10 bucks why not give it a try? I guarantee you will love the disc system because you can customize and pretty it up any way you want!
Here are more details on either of the sizes:

(6) BH Cosmetics Rosé Romance 12 Piece Brush Set With Cosmetic Bag – $24
With all the hype and talk about the Kylie Cosmetics exhorbitant ‘natural bristle’ brush set that costs nearly $400 (inclusive of shipping and sales tax from its base price of $360), I could not help but shrug and say, “Nope, not buying into all that brouhaha.”
With due respect, I am not really into Kylie’s products. I prefer Colourpop (aka the dupes of her lipkits and shadows). And as for the makeup brushes I have stopped using real hair makeup brushes. My last set was Shu Uemura from the good o’l modeling days. And back then I did not mind forking over three digits for a whole brush line.
Now that I am a working mom and wife, with home and home-based business budgets to balance, I prefer the synthetics! I have used a few over the years and have been very impressed on how they are well built and hold up as great applicators. Some of my early favorites are a set from ECOTools.
Lately I am loving another brand called BH Cosmetics. Beauty bloggers have given rave reviews on them. I definitely became a fan after I saw the range of brushes they offer at an amazing price point.
I also like Morphe brushes. But for a real bang for your buck, you can’t go wrong with the BH Cosmetics Rose Romance 12 piece set that even comes in its own cosmetic case!
And if you hurry, you might avail of BH’s all products at 35% off…which makes this set only a mere $15.59? So crazy cheap I plan to stock up and give as gifts!
(7) The Senreve ‘Supremes’ Gift Duo – $1575
I know what you are thinking as you look at the cost of both these Senreve bags combined as a gift set. $1575 is a lot to pay for two bags.
However, if I were to tell you that these Senreve bags indubitably scream of luxury, sturdiness, and amazing design compared to the a single tote of an LV bag (i.e. the LV Neverfull MM designed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Cruise 18 is $1570), or a Tod’s mini bag (i.e. the Tod’s Double T Satchel Mini is $1557), or a Celine clutch (i.e. the Celine Pocket Evening Clutch on chain is $1650), then you might agree that this could be a steal of a deal.
I am, after all, comparing apples to apples, and as such Senreve is definitely comparable to luxury established brands. They are made in the same factory as Fendi and Balenciaga. And their bags have won rave reviews by fashion, lifestyle, and business publications.
Without a doubt I became a fan of Senreve as I related in my recent blog post. I am a paying customer and not an affiliate. And I am thrilled that since the publication of my post I have had private inquiries from my blogging network on this brand. It is great to spread the word on such an fantastic company!
As for affordability, well…anyone can decided that on their own. But here’s a cool hint….rack up those Ebates ‘rebates’ and save it. Because when the day comes that you want to treat yourself to something luxurious, you do not have to hesitate!
Here are the deets on the Senreve Maestro and Doctor bags:
- 100% made in Italy
- Italian water-resistant genuine leather exterior
- Supple, stain-resistant micro-suede interior
- Leather strips to protect the base
(8) Adidas PureBoost – $140 to $185
My friend, Franco, re-introduced me to the Adidas brand when I accompanied him shoe-shopping for the highly-popular ‘Ultra Boost’ shoe. I honestly did not know what it was and why there was such a hype. But he explained to me the basic concept of comfort marrying performance. Whoa! That really piqued my interest!
Months later I find myself trying both the ultra-boost and pureboost lines. I decided I am most compatible with the latter. The PureBoost has got to be the most comfortable shoe that works with my feet pronation. In comparison to the other athletic shoes I have worn, it won me over hands down.
This shoe line will definitely keep me going in the coming new year!
The specifications of the Boost line are:
- boost™ is Adidas’ most responsive cushioning ever: The more energy you give, the more you get
- Air mesh upper for maximum breathability
- Welded overlays at quarter panel for support and stability in the midfoot
- Adaptive arch molds to the shape of your foot as you move for a supportive feel
- STRETCHWEB rubber outsole flexes underfoot for an energized ride
(9) Neewer Camera Photo Video 18 inch Lighting Kit: 1with LED Ring Light, Light Stand, and Bluetooth Receiver for Smartphones – $140
You might be wondering why I included a Vlogging light and tripod kit to this gift list. Believe it or not, it is a must-have item now that smartphones cameras are the go-to cameras for our everyday shooting.
And what better way to capture fantastic videos and photographs than have a tripod and LED light stand to do the nitty-gritty.
These kits are all over the web and some costs over 1K and some are more reasonable such as this one kit from Amazon that has received rave reviews from verified buyers. If you are thinking of getting a professional photographer to take your photographs or family group shots, save your money for this simple equipment because you will end up spending less.
But if you are a blogger or vblogger and you still do not yet have this kit, then get one! It’s a fantastic investment into your hobby or business!

(10) Gym Membership – $ depending on your location
The ultimate must-have gift is one that helps you take care of your health and well-being.
So for my final 10th gift suggestion, I encourage you to enroll yourselves in a gym program and find a workout routine that you will love. If you are a pro at this, perhaps invest your money in hiring a trainer!
This year I was extremely proud of myself for being able to do something about my pre-diabetic diagnosis. After 60 days on the KETO diet, I am officially in the normal zone in my blood sugar. I decided to continue as much of the KETO diet program because I have already grown accustomed to not eating rice, potatoes, bread, and pasta.
The next challenge for me is to start a regular exercise routine. Although I am a lifetime member at the local gym, I have yet to find a workout I really enjoy. I was considering Pilates, Yoga, or perhaps get the services of a trainer. My ideal would be to consistently work out at least three times a week.
Now remember, most gyms offer great deals towards the year end so be on the lookout. I am already stalking the deals on Groupon (which you can also use via Ebates) for any trials I can avail of.
And there you have it. The ten gifts you should consider giving to yourself to gear up to the new year!
Do you have any other suggestions?
